TOOLS/RESOURCES AS A CYC

The most common thing between children who have ADHD is the impulse to be active. People with ADHD have a very difficult time staying still or quiet even in serious situations. A way to help a child with ADHD is to run an activity that involves a lot of physical activity and the chance to chat among peers. This provides them with a chance to expel the extra energy and sometimes allows people with ADHD to focus more clearly and intently.

This link can provide a worksheet that can help youth release with thoughts and emotions when having ADHD (https://www.therapistaid.com/worksheets/cbt-for-kids.pdf).

Thoughts, feelings and actions are all ways that we express ourselves. Some people with ADHD have difficulty expressing how they feel and sometimes people ignore how they feel because people think they are just overacting or they think people with ADHD will just get over it eventually. I think a great way for children with ADHD to express their feelings is to use feelings, thoughts, and actions worksheet. This allows a child with ADHD to circle their emotions for an adult to see and identify the causes of this problem, for example, if the child is feeling frustrated because the teacher won’t let him go for a walk then he can take one of his provided worksheets, circle how he is feeling and give it to the teacher at an appropriate time.

Resources

ADHD is a disorder that should be addressed and spoken about to raise awareness. ADHD works in many different ways and it is important that we address the different ways ADHD can affect youth and their ability to succeed in life. Non-profit organizations are very good resources to help identify the disorder and to raise awareness there are also many websites that provide information for parents of youth with ADHD and how ADHD progresses or changes as you age. CADDAC provides information on ADHD in childhood and adolescence, adulthood, an in education. The website offers programs such as tutoring, support groups, camp, and clinics/coaches. (CADDAC, 2017). This could be a great way to apply the knowledge of ADHD to the parents or guardians of the child or youth struggling with ADHD.

Totally ADD can provide people knowledge on signs of ADHD and how someone with ADHD can cope with their struggles. This website is a very good option to use because it offers ways for not only the child or youth struggling with ADHD but also provides the parents or guardians with a way to help their child or youth cope with ADHD and the struggles with having this mental disorder (Big Brain Productions, 2017).

Lastly, Teaching Strategies for Students with ADHD is a website that provides different teaching strategies to use for adolescents struggling with ADHD. In the website, they give different types of teaching methods to use in a classroom-based setting to encourage structure, supportiveness within the classroom, enforce discipline and boost self-esteem for the children or youths dealing with ADHD (New Hope Media, 2019).
